Michael Green – Designing Tall Buildings Made of Wood

2013, Art & Design
Presented By: Michael Green

Architect Michael Green loves wood, which he calls the “fingerprint of nature” and “the most technologically advanced major material I can build with,” a material “made by the sun” that is rapidly renewable and sequesters carbon. In Canada and the USA, wood buildings are not permitted to exceed four storeys in height. But Green dreams of skyscrapers made of wood. He is bringing back traditions of the past to re-invent them for the future and capture and harness the true capability of wood. Watch him explain how to use wood building materials that are durable, strong, and fire-safe enough for really tall, affordable and beautiful structures.
