Jeffrey Simpson



Jeffrey Simpson, the Globe and Mail’s national affairs columnist, has won all three of Canada’s major literary prizes – the Governor General’s award for non-fiction book writing, the National Magazine Award for political writing and the National Newspaper Award for column writing (twice). In 2000, he became an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Simpson began his career in political journalism after a parliamentary scholarship in Ottawa. He became the newspaper’s Ottawa Bureau Chief after just over two years with the Globe. Simpson’s writing has appeared in magazines such as Saturday Night, The Report on Business Magazine and the Journal of Canadian Studies. He is the author of eight books, the latest of which is Hot Air: Meeting Canada’s Climate Change Challenge published in 2007.

Simpson has been awarded Honorary Doctorates of Law from six Canadian universities, and has been a guest lecturer at Harvard, Princeton, Oxford and more than twenty universities within Canada. The father of three currently lives in Ottawa with his wife.
