Darlene Lim

Dr. Darlene Lim is a geobiologist and science promoter who is based at the NASA Ames Research Center and the SETI Institute.

Dr. Lim earned her PhD in Environmental Geology from the University of Toronto, specializing in limnology and paleolimnology. She works on applications of her research on hisotrical lake records and environmental change in high arctic lakes to Mars analogue studies. Among her many Mars-related research projects, she heads the Pavilion Lake Research Project, which investigates the unusual microbialites in Pavilion Lake, B.C. for their Mars analogue potential.

Dr. Lim also speaks and writes extensively on the need for science literacy and the value of scientific research in general and Mars research in particular. She sits on the advisory board of the Mars Institute and is a member of the steering committee for the Mars Society. She also finds time to write for the Globe and Mail and Mclean’s magazine on issues of science and exploration.
