Birgitta Jónsdóttir



Birgitta Jónsdóttir is a member of parliament of Althing, the Icelandic parliament, representing The Movement. She was elected to the Icelandic parliament in April 2009 on behalf of a movement she helped create, aiming for democratic reform beyond party politics of left and right. Birgitta is on the board of International Network of Parliamentarians’ for Tibet (INPaT) and serves in the foreign affairs committee and the environmental committee. Birgitta has been an activist and a spokesperson for various groups, such as WikiLeaks, Saving Iceland and Friends of Tibet in Iceland.

Birgitta was an active volunteer for WikiLeaks in 2010 and played an important role in the making of the Collateral Murder video. She chairs the board of the International Modern Media Institute and is the chief sponsor of the Icelandic Modern Media Initiative. Birgitta is on the Bradley Manning Support Group Advisory Board.

She is also a poet, writer, artist, editor, publisher, activist and internet pioneer.
