Vancouver’s Marc Emery, who has been called everything from a ‘Pot Crusader’ to a ‘Marijuana Activist’, is at the forefront of the issue of the decriminalization of marijuana.
He is the publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine, the producer of ‘Pot-TV’, the founder of Hemp BC and Vancouver’s Cannabis Café and the distributor of 350 different varieties of marijuana seeds through Marc Emery Direct.
An advocate of the ‘harm reduction’ approach to drug addiction, Emery recently launched the Iboga Therapy House on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast (ibogaine, a flowering West African shrub related to the coffee plant, is said to cure alcohol and drug addictions).
Emery ran for mayor of Vancouver in 2002 and has run for federal office twice as the President of the BC Marijuana Party. He has been jailed eight times for marijuana and has also recently been advocating the opening of marijuana-selling operations (to offer ‘respectable retail outfits to out-of-towners’, he says) in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
