John Perry Barlow

Electronic Frontier Foundation

John Perry Barlow is a former Wyoming rancher and Grateful Dead lyricist. He is the co-founder and co-chair of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a San Francisco-based organization that works to protect digital civil liberties and to oppose online censorship.

Barlow has written for numerous publications, including The New York Times and TIME, and has been on the masthead of Wired magazine since it was founded.

He has been a fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics and is a Berkman Fellow at Harvard Law School. His piece on the future of copyright, The Economy of Ideas, is taught in many law schools and his Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace is posted on thousands of websites.

He works actively with several consulting groups, including Diamond Technology Partners, Vanguard and Global Business Network.

He lives in Wyoming, New York, San Francisco, On The Road, and in Cyberspace.
