Darlene Lim

Mars Researcher

Darlene Lim is a researcher, science promoter and one of a select few Canadians who was chosen to participate in the NASA/SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) HMP (Haughton-Mars Project), an ongoing, multi-disciplinary, international effort to conduct Mars analogue studies at Haughton Crater, Devon Island, in Nunavut.

Lim was also part of the inaugural crew of the world’s first Mars simulation base (the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station), also situated at the Haughton Crater.

She has appeared on several Mars-related documentaries, including a Channel 4 (UK) production called Ascent of the Red Planet, which was filmed on a volcano on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean (Lim was one of five who simulated climbing the largest known mountain in our solar system – Mars’ Olympus Mons).

Lim sits on the Board of Advisors of the US-based Mars Institute and is a member of the Steering Committee for The Mars Society, an international NGO dedicated to the advancement of the Mars exploration and research.
